The Active Learning Space Symposium at Philadelphia University on August 12 features presentations that highlight evidence-based and experimental processes in the design, implementation and assessment of active learning spaces.  The forum provides an excellent opportunity to share experiences and thoughts about the way the built environment and technologies can support, nurture, and optimize active learning pedagogies.

ApprenNet works in 3 simple steps:

1. Drive Skill Practice: Instructors post videos that ask Learners to practice skills by responding to real world challenges.
2. Create Meaningful Review: With a few clicks, Instructors design peer review for Learners to observe each other and give and get feedback.
3. Share Expertise: Capture your organization’s know-how by empowering your Experts to share best practices quickly and easily.

For our Tech Day "meet", 1) watch our short video instruction, 2) post your own ideas to share, and 3) view other submissions and give them feedback. 

Tell us how you are currently using technology in your classroom.  We are especially interested in any problems you see in face to face instruction that you think technology might be a solution for!  For example, if a snow day prevents face-to-face instruction, technology might offer a way to deliver content without missing instructional days. Once you upload your video, you will be able to return to the program and view the videos of other participants.

NMC Horizon Report: 2013 Higher Education Edition

The New Media Consortium (NMC) Horizon Report is an unbiased source of information that helps education leaders, trustees, policy makers, and others easily understand the impact of key emerging technologies on education, and when they are likely to enter mainstream use.

The 2013 Horizon Report is a decade-long research project designed to identify and describe emerging technologies likely to have an impact on learning, teaching, and creative inquiry in higher education. Six emerging technologies are identified across three adoption horizons over the next one to five years, as well as key trends and challenges expected to continue over the same period, giving campus leaders and practitioners a valuable guide for strategic technology planning.

Google Apps for Education Training Center

Google has released an online learning environment dedicated for educators and students to learn how to effectively use Google Apps in an educational context.

USciences has two Google Apps domains:

1. Online.usp.edu: our own "closed" domain used for faculty, students and staff to communicate and collaborate. The USciences username and password is required to access this domain and no content is made public - ideal for student wiki assignments.
2. Sites.usciences.edu [coming soon!]: our new "open" domain used for faculty to promote their own scholarly activity to the general public. This domain is ideal for creating faculty profile pages and for displaying laboratory research.
